Native Americans in State Curriculum Documents

Starting today (Oct 27, 2016), AICL will begin a log of curriculum documents developed by state departments of education. Some, like California, specifically identify children's books that can be used for instruction. In some instances we'll link to a specific content area. This log is of interest to us as we begin a study of the presence or absence of Native nationhood and sovereignty in guidelines teachers use. All 50 states are listed, and we'll add links to each one as we find them. We pay provide an annotation for some of them, and, we may include an excerpt. We'll date each one when we add it.

Debbie, the North Carolina State Advisory Council on Indian Education, liaisoned by the NC Department of Public Instruction, has extensive resources for teaching to and about Native Americans. Would you be able to include a notation link next to North Carolina on this page? People can access the resources at http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/americanindianed/resources/
